Primary Care Counselling

Primary care counselling works along side a variety of primary care physicians including General Practioners by providing counselling care that promotes health, disease prevention, bereavement support, and injury recovery. Primary care counselling promotes effective communication with patients and encourages the role of the patient as a partner in health care.

Often a patient in a health care setting will have an opportunity to confront and reflect on their lives including both positive aspirations as well as the emotional challenges that accompany an injury or illness. At some point during a medical treatment one may encounter feelings of negativity, low-mood, anxiety and even depression. These emotional experiences and feelings can occur with no explanations or prior warnings.
